Ball valves (2pcs/3Pcs/Split Body Floating)
Ball valves are quarter-turn, straight-through valves that have a round closure element with matching rounded seats that permit uniform sealing stress. The closure element of a ball valve consists of a ball shaped disc, the valve is opened and closed by either a manual operator or by a quarter turn actuator. Ball valves are used in situations where tight shut-off is required. They are wide duty valves, able to transfer gases, liquids and liquids with suspended solids (slurries). They are best used for fast-acting stop/start applications.
Balls are usually made by steel. The seat is usually an elastomeric material or plastic, such as PTFE, Nylon, Buna-N, Neoprene, and combinations of materials. When selecting a material for the seat, consider the type and temperature of the media the valve will be handling. Many elastomer materials cannot be used in high temperature or corrosive material.
There are mainly two type of construction: floating ball design, the most common type of ball valve. The ball is not fixed to the stem so a wide range of freedom is available. The upstream pressure helps create the seal by pushing the ball back against the rear or downstream seat. The other type is called trunnion ball valve, where the valve supports the ball with a shaft and the side opposite the shaft using another shaft or post. Trunnion valves provide less friction between the ball and seal and can be used in more severe conditions.
The valve design can be Reduced Port or Full Port. While the former allows lower force to close the valves at the cost of a higher pressure loss, the latter provides minimum pressure loss across the valve.
Another way to list the ball valves is based on the construction of the body.
One-piece style are installed as a unit.
Two-piece style, the body is splitted in two pieces. It’s very commonly used for floating type valves. Three-pieces style, offers a fast and easy access for valve maintenance. Connection to the pipe can vary from threaded, wafer, flanged, welded ends.
At MAGVALVES we deal with almost all type of ball valves.
